Admiral Seguros: an insurer with an A rating for its APIs

In this use case, we explore how Admiral Seguros improved the quality of its APIs and automated their deployment to achieve an A rating.

How to scale your digital business through APIs without compromising quality?

Introduction

As part of the process of increasing the adoption and standardisation of APIs, Admiral Seguros faced the challenge of scaling its business through APIs while maintaining quality. In addition, it was necessary to incorporate improvements in governance, automation and standardisation.

CloudAPPi provided consulting support, reviewing both the current status and future developments, as well as standardising the creation process and existing APIs.

Next, we assisted the insurer in selecting an API Manager, assessing the current situation and analysing different vendors on the market.

Finally, through APIQuality, an APIOps process was implemented to define the flow of API creation and editing alongside the chosen API manager.

First stop: analysing Admiral Seguros’ current situation

The insurer was experiencing a phase of API growth driven by the company’s API-fication strategy. As a result, there was a need to standardise and adapt both existing and future APIs to new standards.

In this context, the insurer decided to rely on CloudAPPi to help define processes, improvements and the next steps within a 360-degree API strategy.

Key challenges of the process

In this context, Admiral Seguros faced the following challenges:

Key learnings from the Admiral Seguros project

The need to govern and standardise APIs to ensure the highest quality for both the company’s current and future APIs.

The need to implement an API Manager, selecting the best option on the market to meet their requirements.

The need to implement an APIOps process and a unified governance model, which would be carried out through APIQuality.

The implemented solution and its strategic approach

To address these challenges and deliver the best possible service, CloudAPPi approached the project with a strategic vision. First, an assessment was carried out to analyse the state of Admiral Seguros’ APIs and architecture, identifying potential improvements and areas for evolution.

Once this initial evaluation was complete, work began on standardising the API creation process. In this area, CloudAPPi leveraged its expertise through its fully certified team. In addition, the client was supported in selecting an API Manager tool by benchmarking various providers, always aligned with Admiral Seguros’ specific needs.

In the final phase, CloudAPPi executed an APIOps project on GitLab CI. At this stage, the company received support from APIQuality, which managed the end-to-end process: from API definition, through mocking and testing, to deployment on the chosen API Manager.

Subsequently, this APIOps process was fully integrated into the APIQuality platform.

What we achieve together

Following the intervention of CloudAPPi and APIQuality, Admiral Seguros achieved the following improvements:

Organisational rating A and high-quality APIs

It has an organisational rating of A, which means that the APIs being developed are of very high quality and are ready to be used by AI through MCPs.

Knowledge of APIs and process improvement

The insurance company, which already had a solid architecture team, acquired more knowledge in APIs, which helped them continue to advance and improve their API processes.

Implementation of an efficient API Manager

With assistance in decision-making, they implemented an API Manager that met their needs, thereby improving the management and deployment of their current APIs. This configuration remains in place to this day.

APIQuality, a centralised and flexible tool

APIQuality provides you with a centralised multi-lifecycle tool that accompanies your evolution towards governance maturity. In addition, they have extended its functionalities, allowing you to create your own stages without complex developments or vendor dependency.
